Med Connections: InterculturArt and Sustainable living. Vasto, Abruzzo, Italy – from 12th till 21st July 2009
Over the past decade, all the issues related to Sustainable Development (global warming, fair trade, natural resources, waste management, education and communication, renewable energy sources, biodiversity, pollution) acquired great importance in public opinion and on political choices involving not only National Governments, EU Commission or the business sector but also Local Public bodies and several associations that daily deal with such topics directly with the citizens and their local environment (http://www.youtube.com/ORAchannel).
The main idea of the long term project “Sustainable Europe: tool for inclusion of young people” is to create an annual international opportunity for youth, NGO’s and youth workers coming from EU and SEE in order to share competences and experiences on Sustainability. The goals are to develop new opportunities of social, economical and environmental inclusion for/with young people and to participate actively into a worldwide debate addressing the topic of Sustainable Development in its various aspects (life style and footprint, new consumption, common goods, renewable energy sources, responsible tourism and mobility) as perfect roof under which to fit priorities and needs directly coming from young people, citizens and youth workers.
All the activities of this year meeting will be realized using non-formal education methods (learning by doing, peer education, self direct learning), they will be strongly oriented in terms of inter cultural learning paying attention to the cultural diversity represented by the partnership, promoting a good environment, mutual understanding and cooperation among all the participants.
During the project will be realized 2 different workshops (education, communication and awareness) under the framework of ORA approach (Observe, Rethink, Act). The aim is to develop concrete tools to involve young people and citizens on Sustainable Development subjects. Of course, we will have for both workshops the opportunity to test on field the job done: we will have devoted meetings with experts, we will interact with children (aged between 7 and 11) and people who will stay in “Punta Aderci” Natural Reserve (18th and 19th July morning) and also with local citizens during the public event in Vasto (19th evening).
The educational workshop will explore 4 aspects of SD (renewable energy, waste, responsible tourism and mobility) and it will work on 2 different levels: animation (games in sand like sculpturing, pantomime, games without borders, memory game, etc) and creation (toys, board games, sewing wallets, bags, jewel, painting on cloth, etc.) using sustainable and/or recycled material.
The communication and awareness workshop will explore the same aspects of SD (renewable energy, waste, responsible tourism and mobility) in order to work with and develop multimedia tools (video, audio tracks, photos, web spaces, graphic arts, audio-visual slide show, etc.) able to sensitize and aware the citizens.
