“…The new era is destined to build up mankind…it is destined to organize Europe as a land of free people who are indipendent as related to their inner mission, associated among them with a common aim. Under the uniform, liberty, equality, humanity. Giuseppe Mazzini, 1834 |
Participation and Active Citizenship in Europe
The Network P.A.C.E. (Participation and Active Citizenship in Europe)
born from the common need of associations coming from European Union
(Italy, Belgium, Bulgaria, Slovak Republic), former Soviet Union (Russia,
Byelorussia, Ukraine) and former Yugoslavia (Serbia, Bosnia Herzegovina,
Macedonia) to follow, through the establishment of a formal European
network, in the debate that in Europe is developing since some years
about participation and active citizenship in the social, civil and
democratic life of our societies.
P.A.C.E. Network will develop on a double level. From one side, the necessity
to foster the “intercultural dialogue” among the different
realities involved as the base for “democratic cohabitation”,
human rights and the fight against any kind of discrimination. On the
other, the need to create a long term operational tool, an European Network
(association among associations), formally registered and recognised,
that will efficiently promote those value and objectives on the cultural,
social, multimedia, sustainable development issues in order to acquire,
develop, spread and put in common different knowledge and experiences.
The main aims of P.A.C.E. Network are:
To empower young people to become active locally, nationwide and internationally
within the framework of tolerance, respect of diversity, citizenship
and participation, interculturality and democratic values.
To compare the different partners’ situations as far as the level
of democratic development and civil society is concerned.
To tackle as many aspects as possible of this development: democratic
participation, political and party system, social actors, citizens’ awareness,
legal aspects, anti-racism and social exclusion, European institutions
and NGOs, culture and cultures, etc. in order to give to the participating
organizations a different view and a richer reflection about their society
environment and activities.
To spread values of solidarity, tolerance, democracy, equal opportunities,
peaceful resolution of conflicts, sustainable development, intercultural
learning and diversity as richness.
To raise awareness and increase the role of citizens in the decision
making process
To give European dimension to the work of every partner in their countries.
To exchange and spread information, initiatives, experiences, successes,
failures and methodologies.
To create a constant link between partners.
To set up joint projects and activities in the framework of public and
private international granting programs, using non formal education as
main working tool.
